It’s a new year and time to ditch the tired old excuses about there being "no good men" or "no good women" out there. Before you start pointing fingers, it's high time to take a long, hard look in the mirror and own up to your mess.
Let's face it – many of us spend more time frontin' like we’re not on the lookout for love, but the minute someone gives us a little attention, we're all in. 4 months later, we still do not know their last name. Why? Because we're so tired of being single that we settle. Forget trying to figure out why we're flying solo in the first place.
We can rattle off a whole list of qualities we want in a partner, but when it comes to what we bring to the table, all we've got is "good sex and a good job." Seriously? Those should be standard for anyone over the age of 21.
Instead of getting caught up in all the noise and posting about this, that, and the other, it's time to put in some real work on ourselves. If our dream partner magically appeared, would we even be able to handle them? Could we talk about our dreams, values, and ambitions? Can we show real progress toward our goals? Are we brave enough to open up about our past, secrets, and insecurities without freaking out?
And let's not forget – do we even know what a good man or woman looks like? Have we had any real experience with one, and if they're not around anymore, what role did we play in that?
We all deserve some genuine love, but the real question is, are we ready for it?
In the quest for a meaningful relationship, self-awareness is key. We've gotta understand our values and goals before trying to mesh our lives with someone else's. Only by owning up to our flaws and insecurities can we hope to build something solid and real with a potential partner.
So, as we roll into this new year, let's make a pact to do some soul-searching before we go looking for love in all the wrong places. Let's dig deep, get real with ourselves, and aim for some serious personal growth. By doing that, we'll not only attract but also keep a genuine, kickass connection with a potential partner. 'Cause at the end of the day, the most important relationship we've got is the one we've got with ourselves.
